The idea of ​​furnishing gardens dates back to ancient times. Roman gardens in Pompeii and other areas had furniture similar to modern gardens, such as stone tables, stone seating groups, sculptures and fountains. Then, in order to provide comfort, stone seats were softened by putting cushions and fabrics on them. Another example of ancient times, in medieval garden paintings, shows that noble women sit on grass chairs with their beloved.

Designers adopting the principle 'form follows function' began to ask the following question: What is the function of a garden? The concept of outdoor life created by the influence of modernism in garden design has been a clear answer to this question in order to market garden furniture.

The years of prosperity in the 1980s, the outdoor heating industry began to develop rapidly due to the global warming and the intense production of garden furniture manufacturers.

Today, modern garden furniture is produced from materials such as steel, aluminum, glass and weather resistant wood.
